If this holds true, it makes you wonder if this quality of degradation could be applied to other things as well, in a bid to reduce it to their simplest forms and make them as easy to comprehend as possible. If applied to writing systems, would reducing letterforms down to their base structures result in a more easily understood system? This is exactly what informed the creation of Pixel Type. An entire glyph, reduced to but a few pixels. Pixel type comes in various weights, with each weight mirroring a higher level of complexity in pixelation. These fonts were then used to create a 2 × 2 in specimen book made entirely of vellum to emulate the fuziness that comes with pixelation as well as the layering effect that best represents the different weights coming together to form the full letterform.
